The 2026 InterContinental Music Awards Ceremony: A Global Celebration of Music and Creativity
From Los Angeles to the World: One Night, 122 Cities,441 Winners and a Shared Language of Music
Across borders and generations, artists at the 2026 InterContinental Music Awards shared more than their music — they shared stories of survival, healing, remembrance and the enduring human need to connect.
LOS ANGELES — August 2026 — Artists from around the world came together virtually on Aug. 23 for the 2026 InterContinental Music Awards. The Los Angeles-based international celebration recognizes musical talent across cultures, genres and generations.
Now in its 14th year, the awards welcomed submissions from more than 100 countries and regions. Attendees joined the online ceremony from 122 cities worldwide. This year, 440 artists and musical works received winner recognition across ICMA’s international categories.
Yet beyond the awards themselves, the ceremony became a reflection of something larger. It highlighted the many ways music connects people across borders and the role it can play during moments of challenge, healing and change.
Throughout the ceremony, artists shared personal stories behind their music. Their experiences touched on illness, recovery, grief, cultural identity and returning to creative dreams after years away. One artist spoke about music created during a battle with cancer. Another shared a story of returning to music later in life after a long absence.
One particularly memorable moment came when ICMA judge Maria Di Cara introduced a sound-healing demonstration using crystal quartz singing bowls. She invited attendees to experience music not simply as performance, but as sound with the potential to create calm, reflection and emotional connection.
These moments echoed the philosophy that has guided the InterContinental Music Awards since its beginnings: Harmony Across Continents.
“Every submission carries a unique story — a different culture, a different musical tradition and a different creative journey,” said ICMA founder Shahed Mohseni. “When those stories come together, music becomes more than entertainment. It becomes a way for us to understand one another.”
At the center of the nearly eight-hour global celebration were ICMA founder and CEO Shahed Mohseni and co-host Merry M Pour, host of ICMA’s Star Spot interview series.
Rather than moving quickly from one announcement to the next, the hosts made a deliberate effort to give winning artists an opportunity to speak. Artists shared the stories, people and experiences behind their music.
Merry encouraged artists to take their moment, bringing warmth and remarkable energy throughout the marathon ceremony. Meanwhile, Shahed guided the celebration across continents, categories and generations.
The result gave the ceremony an unusually personal character. Artists were not simply names appearing on a winners list. They were invited into the conversation and given space to be heard.
“We wanted every artist to feel that this was their moment,” Merry said. “Recognition is important, but so is giving artists the opportunity to share the voice and the story behind their music.”
That spirit carried through hours of winner announcements, spontaneous conversations, laughter, emotional reflections and unexpected stories. It transformed what could have been a traditional awards presentation into a global gathering of musicians.
Chris Redding Receives the 2026 ICon Award
Among the ceremony’s highest honors, the 2026 ICon Award was presented to Chris Redding. The award recognized his artistic journey, impact and commitment to using music as a force for connection and positive change.
The honor included a $1,000 cash prize sponsored by singer-songwriter and producer Chuck Leah, who joined the ceremony to help announce the recipient.
More than a recognition of musical achievement alone, the ICon Award celebrates artists whose work reflects the larger values at the heart of ICMA. These include purpose, perseverance and the ability of music to make a meaningful impact on others.
A New Generation and a Changing Musical Landscape
The 2026 awards also marked an important expansion of the program with the introduction of the Rising Stars division. It recognizes young musicians in categories including Youth Original Song, Youth Best Vocalist and Youth Best Instrumentalist.
The addition placed emerging young artists alongside established musicians from around the world. It reflects ICMA’s commitment to recognizing creative voices at every stage of their journey.
This year also introduced dedicated AI Music categories, reflecting the rapid evolution of music technology. The categories maintain a distinction between generative AI-created work and music in which artificial intelligence is used as an assisting creative tool.
The new categories became part of a broader conversation within the ceremony about technology and creativity. They also reinforced ICMA’s position that artistic vision and creative direction remain at the heart of meaningful music-making.
Music Across Borders
The 2026 ceremony highlighted works representing a wide range of cultural traditions and contemporary musical approaches. They ranged from classical and world music to pop, jazz, soundtrack, electronic music and culturally rooted compositions.
Several featured acceptance speeches reflected the broader human stories behind the recognized works. Artists spoke about music created during difficult personal circumstances, projects inspired by cultural heritage and the desire to create connection during uncertain times.
